#39 Tanni Grey Thompson on making hotels more accessible
Following Kevin Daws interview with Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson, Scott Whitney asked the Paralympic gold medalist for her opinion on accessible hotels.
This short podcast tells hotels (and other industries) how to improve things for disabled people
Tanni is straight to the point with her answer
Do you agree with her?

I was fortunate enough to see you in Sydney. We was over there at the time for my brother's wedding. I was non-disabled at the time because I acquired my disability sort of five years ago. But in my five-year period, I then...
became homeless, was in temporary accommodation for a period, and now in apartment that's not accessible for me. But I read similar to Kevin, a lot of your tweets at the time, you was having a lot of problems in and around that time, and I assume you still are with hotels.
Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson
Yeah.
Scott Whtiney
So again, a lot of non-disabled people don't, I guess, understand the difficulties that people face when it comes to booking a hotel or staying in a hotel and especially a hotel that says it is accessible. What do you think could be done better with regards to hotels for disabled
Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson
There just needs to be, you know, proper standards. So what means accessible to one person is not accessible, you know, to another brand. So they think if they put, you know, a low sink in or a small sink, you know, a bit more space, that's fine. You know, the number of hotels I've been in where they said there's an accessible shower and then there's no seat. So it's like, what am meant to do? on the floor. So I think then it just needs much higher standard.
Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson
then all the hotels know what they have to do. The standards at the moment are pretty low. And the number of places I stay where the mirrors up here on the wall and things like that. yeah, just everyone coming together and just agreeing what a better standard would be.
